VOLLEYBALL: MARSHALL, Texas (9/16/15) - Earning awards this week for the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team are Mallory Sanders and Adaeze Elonu. Sanders was named the AVCA National Division III Player of the Week and the ASC East Player of the Week. Elonu was given the ASC East Defensive Player of the Week award. ETBU went 4-0 last weekend at the Austin College Invitational with a win over #23 Southwestern University.
Sanders appeared in all four matches and 15 total sets averaging nearly five kills per set with 74 total kills. Additionally, Sanders averaged over two digs per set, finishing with 40 overall. She also chipped in three service aces and six total blocks during the event. She hit .317 in four matches with a weekend high of .366 vs. St. Gregory's. She posted two 20-plus kill matches producing 23 vs. Southwestern and 24 against Dallas double up with 13 digs and 15 digs in each match.
Elonu had a great defensive effort with 19 total blocks in four matches averaging 1.27 blocks per set. Sh had a weekend high of six vs. Dallas and Southwestern. She also posted 21 kills vs. Southwestern and 15 kills vs. Dallas.
ETBU is currently 7-2 and receiving votes in the AVCA NCAA Division III National Poll.
