ETBU offers new Master of Education for Spring 2017

October 14, 2016

East Texas Baptist University received confirmation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) last week that their Board of Trustees approved ETBU's prospectus to offer a Master of Education in College and University Leadership.  The new graduate degree program will be available Spring 2017.

The addition of the M.Ed. in College and University Leadership increases graduate degree programs at ETBU to seven. The new program will provide a well-organized course of study that prepares students for professional careers in administrative leadership in the field of higher education.

"The program will be offered in a hybrid format that is designed for flexibility with students' personal and professional lives," Director of Graduate Admissions Den Murley said. "Classes will meet on Saturdays throughout the semesters and the remainder of the teaching will be supplemented with online instruction."

The M.Ed. in College and University Leadership will produce graduates who are able to make research-informed decisions based on data analysis, sound theory, and practical experience; have excellent relational skills; and have the ability to implement Christian servant leadership.

"We saw a need in East Texas and surrounding areas for a degree in higher education administration to meet the growing market for well-educated and trained leaders in colleges and universities," Dean of the School of Education John Sargent said. "Our degree will emphasize the integration of Biblical faith through the lens of a Christian worldview."

Upon graduation, students can pursue positions in student services, financial aid, admissions, and administration positions in both the community college and/or university setting.

"The opportunity to train university and college leaders for our University and for those across East Texas is a significant stewardship for us and one we have not taken lightly," Dr. Sanders said. "These students will have a multifaceted program that will equip them to serve as Christian servant leaders called to prepare students for a lifetime of service in the area of their calling."

ETBU's online Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Kinesiology were approved last summer for the 2016-2017 school year as well. ETBU has several other graduate degrees still in the review process with hopes of offering them soon.
