ETBU's Larzabal Earns ASC Community Service Award

June 21, 2015

ASC: RICHARDSON, Texas (6/10/15) - Gaining one of the top awards in the American Southwest Conference is Nic Larzabal. Larzabal was named a tri-winner of the ASC Community Service award.  It is the third time that a male athlete from ETBU has won the award.

Larzabal, who ran cross country and was a student assistant coach in tennis, was a four-year letterman for ETBU.  He graduated in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Sociology.

The other male athletes to receive the award were James Fugate (2011-12) and Michael Cucinota (2009-10). The award started in 2008-09 and ETBU has now won it three of the seven times and twice in the past four years.

Below is part of the ASC release on Larzabal:

Larzabal (Bogota, Columbia/Northstar Academy) is a two sport athlete in cross country and tennis, and the third East Texas Baptist recipient of the ASC Community Service award. In his time at ETBU, Larzabal has consistently been involved in some form of voluntary community service. For the last two years, he volunteered at least 40 hours a semester at the Soda Lake Baptist Association Clothes Closet. He contributed at the Marshall Food Pantry and has taken part in a variety of conference and institution-level Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) initiatives. For the last several years, he served as a volunteer at different summer youth camps and has taken part in all of the volunteer service projects through the ETBU Cross Country and Tennis teams. He served as a volunteer coach for the Kaboom Project, which built a new playground at Robert E. Lee Elementary.

"Nick has been an invaluable member of our team, with a servant's heart and a positive attitude," said ETBU cross country coach Natalie Bach-Prather. "Besides being a part of every service project on campus and getting involved in off campus ministry, he is constantly encouraging everyone around him. Nicolas is very deserving of this award."
