Fiddler on the Roof
Book by Joseph Stein | Music by Jerry Bock | Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick

"In our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck.  It isn't easy.  You may ask, why do we stay up here if it's so dangerous?  We stay because Anatevka is our home."  --Tevye

Based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof tells the poignant story of Tevye, a poor Jewish dairyman, and his family as they weather the changing tide of time, progress, and the political upheavals of imperialist Russia.  The musical, debuting on Broadway in 1964, continues to be relevant today, touching upon universal truths and emphasizing a common humanity that unites us all.
