Hedda Gabler Banner.jpg

by Henrik Ibsen

Largely considered to be one of the greatest plays of early realism, Hedda Gabler tells the story of a woman trapped by the societal conventions of the late nineteenth century.  Equally afraid of scandal and boredom, the title character creates her own drama and amusement by manipulating those around her.  Everyone, from her academically-minded husband George Tesman to the powerful Judge Brack, unknowingly torments her with their inability to recognize her needs, passions, and restlessness.  The result is explosively destructive.
