ETBU Alum Named Evangelism Director for SBTC

Posted by Tiger Pride in Alumni

ETBU Grad Dr. Nathan Lorick of Malakoff was recently elected to the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention as its new evangelism director.

Dr. Lorick holds a bachelor of arts degree from ETBU, a master of divinity degree and doctor of divinity degree from Liberty Theological Seminary, as well as an honorary doctor of divinity from Louisiana Baptist University.  He is also a trustee of the International Mission Board, and served as the first Vice President of the SBTC Pastor’s Conference in 2009.

He is currently serving as the pastor of First Baptist Church, Malakoff.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Dr. Lorick before. Months back in the East Texas town of Athens, there was a big controversy over the placement of a nativity scene on the courthouse square when a Wisconsin-based atheist group demanded the removal of the nativity scene, attracting national and international media.  Dr. Lorick was one of the four pastors who organized a rally to support the placement of the nativity. While a ruling has yet to be rendered, Dr. Lorick and three other pastors rallied over 5000 people to the courthouse in Athens in support of religious freedom.

We are very proud of Dr. Lorick, both for his new post with the SBTC, and for his stand against those who would infringe on our guaranteed right to freedom of religion!

Way to go!  GO BLUE!
