Once again the East Texas Baptist University Debate Team coached by ETBU Professor of Communication Dr. Cole Franklin experienced a great year competing. The team finishes the year ranked 7th in the nation after debating at the the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament held April 10-13 at Middle Tennessee State University.

The ETBU team went up against some 250 competitors from 33 universities from across the nation.

“Over 80 universities competed in the IPDA circuit this year” said Dr. Franklin. “We are one of the very smallest universities competing in IPDA. To finish the season ranked seventh in the country is quite an accomplishment. We are very happy with our results.”

Dr. Franklin finished the season ranked fourth nationally out of 145 individuals that competed in the IPDA Profession Division this season.

The ETBU debate team has been competing in the IPDA debate organization since 2007. Membership on the team is open to any ETBU student, faculty, or staff member. No experience is necessary. The 2014-2015 season will begin in September, 2014.
