Perhaps your library in your town has an organization that promotes the library within the community. Most of these organizations have a title like, “Friends of the Marshall Public Library.” Well we have an organization just like that on the Hill now as well!
The Jarrett Library has announced the formation of a new society called the Mark K. Armstrong Society, named for the long-time College of Marshall/East Texas Baptist College librarian. The purpose of the organization is to to promote Jarrett Library’s involvement in the life of ETBU and the community-at-large. The “friends” group will also develop financial and human resources to hold activities and programs.
On Monday, May 11, 2010, the organization became official as the charter was signed by the members of the charter committee, which includes Dr. Eileen Baland, Assistant Professor of English, and Dr. Catherine Cone, Professor of Biology, representing the faculty; local resident Le Illa Dixon, representing the larger Marshall community; Noma Jean Folmar, ETBC Class of 1957 and Joan Odle, ETBC Class of 1956, representing alumni; Annie Henderson, Head of Access Services , representing the library staff; and Peterson. ETBU President Dr. Dub Oliver signed the charter as well.
A drive will be held in the fall and information about becoming a “friend” will be available later this summer. For more information on the Armstrong Society click here!
What a great opportunity to honor a beloved member of our Tiger family, and also an opportunity to play a part in the education of current and future Tigers!
