Criteria for Awards

J. Wesley Smith Achievement Award
Named in honor of the College of Marshall Academic Dean who served two terms as Interim President of the institution during the 1920’s.  Recipients of this award are those who have attended the College of Marshall, ETBC, or ETBU. The recipient must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their profession, business vocation or life service, and must have evidenced continuing investment in ETBU. They should also possess outstanding character and should reflect favorably on the university.

W.T. Tardy Service Award
Named in honor of the founder of the institution, W.T. Tardy, who led the charge to establish a Christ-centered educational institution in Marshall. Tardy was Pastor of the First Baptist Church Marshall when he enlisted members of the community to help establish the College of Marshall.  This award is for those who have advanced the mission of Christ-centered education as envisioned by Rev. Tardy through significant service to the College of Marshall, ETBC or ETBU.  They should possess outstanding character and should reflect favorably on the university and may be an alumni or friend of the university.

Alumni Achievement Award
Recipients of this award must be graduates of the College of Marshall, ETBC or ETBU. They should have made a significant contribution to society through their profession, vocation or life service and should possess outstanding character and should reflect favorably on the university.

Young Alumnus Award
Recipients must be a graduate of ETBU within the last twenty years and must have shown outstanding achievement in their field of service since graduating from the university, should possess outstanding character and should reflect favorably on the university.

ETBU “Unsung Hero” Award
Given to former students who have served faithfully yet inconspicuously in their family, church, community or field of service and whose selfless contribution in their sphere of influence has yet to be recognized.

Blue and Gold Award
Recipients of this award demonstrate great support and passion for the institution.  The recipient must be a consistent and effective advocate for East Texas Baptist University. They should also possess outstanding character and should reflect favorably on the institution.
