Cleaning and Sanitization

In preparation for the Fall 2021 Semester, the ETBU Physical Operations Department has conducted extensive cleaning of the entire campus including, but not limited to, campus buildings, residence halls, restrooms, classrooms, offices, labs, computer labs, and all public spaces at ETBU. University standard cleaning practices follow and exceed guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with the use of EPA-approved, hospital-grade disinfectants. ETBU’s sanitization practices and protocols include enhanced overnight and regular cleaning procedures including: 

  1. Cleaning all classrooms including tables, desks, chairs, door knobs, and common frequently touched surfaces. 

  2. Cleaning lobbies, restrooms, and hallways.

  3. Disinfectant sanitization large areas such as Bennett Commons Dining Hall, Baker Chapel, Dean Healthplex Fitness Center, Maxwell Strength Center, athletic locker rooms, Redwine Band Hall, and Jenna Guest Music Building.

During the day, ETBU’s Physical Operations staff will continuously clean and disinfect common surface areas and restrooms multiple times per day following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the custodial industry.

In addition to Physical Operations staff cleaning measures, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to utilize the disinfectants provided in classrooms and offices to sanitize their assigned or selected seat prior to each class or work assignment as well as continually using the University-provided hand sanitizers placed throughout campus. 

Residence Halls will be provided with Recommended Cleaning Schedules by their Residence Directors and all common/shared spaces will be cleaned daily by Physical Operations staff.

ETBU in partnership with Sodexo, ETBU’s food services provider, has worked to strengthen health screening for cafeteria and restaurant staff. Sodexo will ensure cafeteria and restaurant staff practice strict hygiene and healthy food service protocols and practices. Disposable gloves and face masks will be worn by all food services personnel.  

In March 2020, the University began ordering and tracking resource supplies such as facial coverings, masks, gloves, face shields, PPE equipment, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies. A limited supply of masks will be available for individual purchase for students and employees. Each on-campus student will be provided a washable cloth mask created by the ETBU Mask Ministry. The Physical Operations Department has been preparing University facilities by installing hand sanitizer stations, placing disinfectant spray bottles in common area spaces and classrooms, and installing glass and plexiglass separation partitions in key student service areas. 

With the health and safety of the campus community in mind, ETBU enhanced efforts to improve the University buildings' heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Measures have been initiated to address ventilation, filtration, administrative controls, and sterilization technology. UV-C and Isomer technology that promotes a healthier environment is currently being installed in select high-density student service buildings including Baker Chapel in Rogers Spiritual Life Center, first floor of Ornelas Student Center, Bennett Commons Dining Hall, Sisk Health Services Center, Dean Healthplex Fitness Center, Dean Healthplex locker rooms, Dean Healthplex athletic training room, Keys Gym locker rooms, Tiger Softball Clubhouse, Carlile-Howell Fieldhouse locker rooms, Carlile-Howell Fieldhouse meeting room, and Carlile-Howell Fieldhouse athletic training room.
