The Department of Communication Studies seeks to provide students pursuing a degree in mass communication with the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge of effective mass communication principles. By balancing courses in journalism and mass communication with history, English, math and other courses outside the department, students gain the broad education necessary for mass media careers.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the evolution of public relations throughout history, and the current practice of public relations in today's society based on the principles of research, action, communication and evaluation.
- Students will demonstrate their knowledge of skills and concepts involving the gathering, editing, and presentation of Public Relations messages.
- Students will discover the public relations process as demonstrated by company campaigns using case study research.
- Students will explain key elements of major communication theories.
