Sigma Tau Delta
The English Department sponsors an active chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society. Through this organization, students have the opportunity to publish their creative work and critical essays in the Sigma Tau Delta journals, The Sigma Tau Delta Review and The Rectangle.
In addition, Sigma members host a number of annual events, including the annual Poe Party in October, featuring themes from Poe's famous short stories and poems. The members also plan and host a literary service project each spring. Recent events included an African-American Read-In held at the Jarrett Library on campus and a sidewalk poetry writing event.

Era Miller Writing Contest
Sigma Tau Delta also sponsors the annual Era Miller Writing Contest for students, and their winning stories, poems, and essays are published in The Beacon.
This writing contest was named in honor of Era Miller, a former English professor at ETBU, and the contest began upon Professor Miller's retirement.
Study Abroad
Students can earn degree credit through ETBU's travel study programs. Programs last from a few weeks to a semester or year and cover a variety of disciplines.
