Meet Ms. Cammy Burkhalter

Mrs. Cammy Burkhalter comes to ETBU after 23 years of teaching within public and private schools and is the Director of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music. She teaches courses in music education, piano, voice, and directs ETBU's premier vocal ensemble, Hilltop Singers. With her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Baylor University, Mrs. Burkhalter studied conducting with Dr. Donald Bailey, Dr. Robert Young, and Dr. Hugh Sanders, voice with Jack Coldiron, music education with Dr. Earlene Rentz and Dr. Georgia Green, and ensemble direction with Dr. Leta Horan. While at Baylor, Burkhalter accompanied for the vocal ensemble Baylor 21 under the direction of the late Hugh Sanders. Certified in Level I Orff and Kindermusik®, Burkhalter was awarded the title of Kindermusik Maestro from Kindermusik International for outstanding leadership and development in music education and was named Teacher of the Year for Chapel Hill ISD in 2009. A choreographer and director, Mrs. Burkhalter is also frequently hired to choreograph for school show choirs and shows. A native of Gilmer, she served as the children’s choir director of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant for 8 years before moving to Longview where she and her husband reside with their four children. Mrs. Burkhalter is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon.
