Meet Jonathan Kaan

"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)

Mr. Jonathan Kaan is an Assistant Professor of Music at East Texas Baptist University. At ETBU, his duties include teaching music theory, class piano, music appreciation, and accompanying the School of Music and Theatre Arts' musical productions and applied vocal students. Mr. Kaan has been an active teacher, performer, adjudicator, and collaborative artist for more than fifteen years. Prior to ETBU, Mr. Kaan held faculty positions at Kilgore College, Dallas County College, and Tarrant County College. In addition to his college teaching responsibilities, he maintained a very active private piano studio.

Mr. Kaan received his bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from East Texas Baptist University in 2004. During that time, he was chosen as the Outstanding Student of the Department of Music. Shortly after ETBU, Mr. Kaan earned his master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Baylor University. During his graduate studies, Mr. Kaan was a graduate teaching assistant and taught private and group piano lessons to students of all ages. In addition to teaching, he served as the vice president of the Music Teachers National Association Baylor University Collegiate Chapter, was chosen to be a member of the National Music Honor Society of Pi Kappa Lambda, the Gamma Tau Chapter, and was the recipient of the Music Teachers National Association Student Achievement Recognition Award.

Mr. Kaan is excited to be back at ETBU, and he is looking forward to sharing his love of music with the students in this Christ-centered institution where he began his music education.

Outside of the University, Mr. Kaan also serves as the Music Director of Alpine Presbyterian Church in Longview, TX.
