Dr. Juan Castro is an accomplished Finance and Economics professor and Fulbright scholar with an extensive academic and professional background. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science, a Master's in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Financial Economics. His diverse career includes serving as Vice President of Risk Management at a commercial bank and consulting for the United Nations Development Program.
Dr. Castro has taught at various institutions across Louisiana, Texas, and California, including the University of New Orleans, Southern University at New Orleans, LeTourneau University, Biola University, Louisiana Christian University, California Baptist University, and Texas A&M University in Texarkana. He has also conducted short-term teaching assignments in South Korea, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Honduras, El Salvador, and Ecuador.
In the past five years, Dr. Castro has made significant scholarly contributions. At Texas A&M University at Texarkana, he developed the Center for Personal Financial Literacy and Investment Program. Between 2019 and 2023, he authored several books on finance and personal finance, including Principles of Quantitative Finance, co-authored with Dr. Esther E. Castro of the University of Houston-Downtown and published by Kendall Hunt in August 2019.
Dr. Castro, an ordained pastor, has also dedicated 32 years to serving as a bi-vocational pastor, planting several Hispanic churches and mentoring college students in church planting efforts. Most recently, he pastored Vida Abundant Baptist Hispanic Church in Longview, Texas, for 16 years. Under his leadership, the church was recognized by the Gregg Baptist Association for having the highest number of baptisms in the Gregg country for three consecutive years.
