Dr. Royer is an Assistant Professor of Biology and currently serves as Chair for the Department of Biology in the School of Natural and Social Sciences. Prior to joining the ETBU family, he was a biomedical research scientist and held positions at the National Institutes of Health, Duke University School of Medicine, and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Royer obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry from Oklahoma Baptist University (2011) and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (2016). He has received numerous awards for his research and has published many articles in the fields of microbiology, immunology, and vision science.
Dr. Royer utilizes his front-line research experience to cultivate students’ understanding of biological concepts and their ability to think scientifically. Importantly, he sees the biological sciences as a way to appreciate the intricacies of God’s Creation and the magnificence of the Imago Dei. He is passionate about helping students reach their professional aspirations while affirming that one’s true identity and purpose are found in Christ. Dr. Royer and his wife, Tamara, have a daughter named Evelyn.
