Meet Dr. Barry Wayne Evans

Dr. Barry Evans has been teaching at the college level for over 27 years. He currently serves as Dean of the Fred Hale School of Business at East Texas Baptist University and as Professor of Business Administration where he also teaches in areas of Business Administration, Management and Economics Before joining ETBU, Dr. Evans was Dean of the School of Business at Wayland Baptist University. His career has been varied. Dr. Evans spent the first seven years of his Air Force career as a Medical Logistics Officer and Director of Personnel and Administration at various Air Force Hospitals and clinics. At that time, he found a regionally accredited PhD program, Saybrook Research Institute and Graduate School, and began the program in Okinawa, and finished it in Wichita Falls, TX. His dissertation and research dealt with achieving dramatic organizational change. He also achieved board-certification as a professional healthcare executive (CHE) in 1997. His last assignment in the Air Force was at Fort Sam Houston where he was as an Associate Professor of Healthcare Administration at the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration. He created new courses in Provider Profiling Systems (which was an innovative way to measure physician performance) and a Consulting Practicum where students solved real-world problems in local hospitals. Dr. Evans was also on the accrediting commission for graduate programs in healthcare administration during this assignment and traveled to universities in the US and Canada. He resigned his commission on July 1, 2000, to go into full-time ministry and start a free, Christian school in San Antonio Texas. From 2000-2011, he was the founding principal of Calvary Chapel Christian Academy, a free, kindergarten-12th grade school. In 2005, Dr. Evans began teaching undergraduate and graduate Business courses for Wayland Baptist University- San Antonio campus. In 2011, he was selected as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Wayland Baptist University Plainview campus. In 2014, Dr. Evans was selected to be the Dean of the School of Business. In 2017, he was selected to be the Dean of the Fred Hale School of Business at East Texas Baptist University. Dr. Evans has taught over 100 college courses, and instructed over 2000 students in a number of universities worldwide. Since 1991 when Dr. Evans accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior his calling has been to minister to college students; specifically teaching them that they can be successful business people while still being genuine Christians.
