About ETBU

Meet Alain Savage

"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:6

Alain Savage began as the head hockey coach in 2016. Prior to joining the ETBU staff, he had over 23 years of hockey experience ranging from playing professionally to volunteering for the youth program in Shreveport, LA. Starting in the 2020-2021 academic year Savage will also be the head coach for ETBU’s lacrosse team.

Since his career began at ETBU Savage has built a strong, competitive hockey team. The program began during the 2016-2017 season. Savage took the position as head coach during the 2017-2018 season. When he joined the team, the Tigers were not allowed to compete in the playoff tournament in the postseason. In the previous two seasons, the Tigers have not only joined the other Texas hockey teams in the playoffs but became a top contender in the TCHC conference. In the 2018-2019 season, Savage not only brought the club to playoffs, but the team also drew the first-ever post-season win in Tiger Hockey history.

Prior to joining the ETBU family Alain established a successful career as a sales professional in the construction equipment industry. Along with sales, Savage oversaw the environmental safety of multiple companies. Before both of these, Alain Savage had a strong, professional hockey career.

While in high school, he played in the QMJHL or the Quebec Major Juniors Hockey League. While in the QMJHL he became one of the top goal scorers earning him a chance at a professional career. His first team was the Angers in the French Elite League located in France. After a successful season, he then migrated to the USA, joining the Cleveland Lumberjacks (96-97) in the IHL. The Lumberjacks had an affiliation with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where Savage played in the preseason. Following the Lumberjacks Savage joined the Idaho Steelheads (97-98 and 98-99) in the ECHL. After two years he left Boise, Idaho to join the local team, the Shreveport Mudbugs. During the 1999-2000 season, Savage skated alongside the Mudbugs to bring home the President’s Cup Championship right at ETBU’s home rink, George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum. Following his professional career, he remains an active member of the hockey community as a volunteer coach for the Mudbug’s youth hockey program. Alain coaches young hockey players from the 8U division all the way to the 18U. For the last two years, he has been a volunteer for the TCHC youth hockey tournament in Houston, Texas. Alain Savage has a love and passion for hockey that has proven to be unconditional and undying. He states, “With God and the love and support of my family I am able to do what I love every day. I am one of the few people blessed enough to have a career that does not feel like work. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me, but more importantly, for the ETBU Tigers.”
