Brothers Jerry and Jack Cargill, who grew up in Marshall, established the scholarship fund in 2003 to honor the memory of their mother, Polly. Awarded annually, the Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarship program plays a significant role in providing healthcare education to students who are from East Texas or Northwest Louisiana called to the nursing profession and accepted for entrance into a regional Associate’s Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
The scholarship will be awarded through application, and students will be selected by the Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarship Committee. Students in good standing and enrolled in a nursing program in East Texas or Northwest Louisiana are eligible to apply. Applications will be reviewed by the Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarship Committee. Recipients will be selected based on the student’s character, leadership, academic achievement, community service, personal references, and essay submission.
