Dr. John Sargent has been teaching at East Texas Baptist University since 2003. Additionally, he begun serving as Dean of the School of Education in 2016. His teaching, research and specialization areas include research methods, classroom management, special education, and reading disabilities. He received the Professor with Distinction award for the 2015-16 academic year. Before joining ETBU, he taught for nine years in the public schools of Texas and Louisiana. He currently holds teacher certification in all level special education, as well as being a reading specialist in the state of Louisiana. Before his education career, Dr. Sargent was a career aviator in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Dr. Sargent received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, a Master of Science in Management from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Louisiana Tech University. Dr. Sargent is a committed Christian educator who believes in the power of God's word to mold and transform lives and seeks to instill those values into the students he mentors and teaches.
