McLendon ASC Pitcher of the Week
Improving to 5-0 on the year by winning two games on Saturday, March 8th, against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Kelly Jo McLendon (So.; Livingston, Texas) has been named the American Southwest Conference pitcher of the week for March 3-8. This is the first ASC award of the year and the second pitching award of the year for ETBU. Last week Shelby Parker was named the NFCA National Pitcher of the Week
“We are very excited for Kelly Jo as she had a great pitching performance the week before and came back this week and helped us bounce back from the loss on Friday so we were very pleased with the performance she gave us. Every time she gets into the circle she gives us an opportunity to win and that’s what we are looking for,” says head coach Janae Shirley.
McLendon won both games on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor pitching 13 innings and striking out 10 batters. She pitched a two-hit shutout in game one and the only allowed four hits in game two with no earned runs in the series on her record. She threw 11 scoreless innings before three unearned runs were scored in the fifth inning of game two ending her 21.1 scoreless inning streak.
In game one vs. Mary Hardin-Baylor, the game started off rocky as the bases became loaded in the top of the first inning with no outs. She followed with two strikeouts and a fly out to get out of the jam and roll into a 5-0 shutout win with just two hits. In both games combined, she retired the side five times and only walked one batter in 49 batters faced.
