Liles Academic All-American
For the fourth year in a row an East Texas Baptist University softball player has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American team as Lacy Liles earned the award this year. Liles is just one of 33 softball players out of all NCAA Division III softball players to be named a Capital One Academic All-American as a second team member. Ashton Brey (2011, 2012) and Lya Swaner (2013) were both academic All-Americans the past three years for ETBU.
“This is a tremendous honor for Lacy to earn this award as the academic All-American awards are so hard to receive due to the amount of athletes nominated for the award,” says ETBU director of sports information Adam P. Ledyard. “She is in elite status in NCAA Division III for academics receiving this award from the sports information directors. This is an award she can share with her family and friends the rest of her life.”
Liles is just one of two Texas players voted onto the academic All-American team as Ashley Jacobsen (Texas Lutheran) made the third-team. Liles is a senior majoring in business with a 3.8 grade point average and is a NFCA All-American. Her academic accolades, team awards, and individual awards helped put her at the top of the list. She is a NFCA All-American and a two-time All-ASC first-team selection along with being named twice to a NFCA West All-Region team. She has helped ETBU to two NCAA Tournament appearances, a regional tournament title, a super regional title, and an ASC Tournament Championship. She will also finish in the top 10 in several ETBU program categories.
ETBU is currently 44-8 and will be playing in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament this week in Tyler, Texas.
