To enroll in education courses EDUC 3301 and/or EDUC 3302, a student must:
- be classified as a sophomore or higher
- meet the 2.50 GPA requisites
- have completed most general education requirements for the BSE
- satisfied the requirements of the Junior Qualifying Examination (JQE)
- met all course prerequisites
Students desiring to work toward teacher certification will file for admission to the Teacher Education Program by enrolling in Education 3302. During the semester in which students are enrolled in this course, they will complete the application and all other materials required for admission to the Teacher Education Program. In order to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program, a student must:
- have completed the application process for admission to the program
- be classified as a sophomore or higher
- have completed EDUC 3301 and EDUC 3302 with a grade of "C" or higher, and a GPA in these two courses of 2.50 or higher
- meet the 2.50 GPA requisites (cumulative, major/minor and professional development)
- have completed most general education requirements for the BSE
- have a current updated degree audit on file
- have passed all portions of the Junior Qualifying Examination (JQE)
- not be on disciplinary probation
In order to continue enrollment in EDUC courses, students must:
- have met all requirement as indicated above
- have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program
- maintain the 2.50 GPA requisites (cumulative, major/minor and professional development
- meet the course prerequisites
Applications for Student Teaching Level and placement in a student teaching assignment should be completed and submitted to the Director of Student Teaching the semester prior to student teaching. In order to be admitted to the Student Teaching Level and be placed in a student teaching assighment, a student must:
- have met all requirement as indicated above
- have completed application and placement forms for a student teaching assignment
- have completed all requirements of current and/or previous EDUC courses
- have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher in all college course work at the time of application
- have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in teaching field(s) or interdisciplinary major
- have a grade of "C" or higher and a minimum GPA of 2.50 in all professional development courses required for certification
- have completed all general education course requirements as prescribed in the degree plan
- have written approval of the major and/or minor departments
- not be on disciplinary probation
- have filed application for admission to the Student Teaching Level during the semester prior to student teaching according to the deadline published
- lack no more than six (6) additional hours, plus student teaching to graduate
Students may not be admitted to the Teacher Education Program and the Student Teaching Level during the same semester.
In order to be recommended for teacher certification, the student must:
- pass the appropriate practice tests prior to taking the state-mandated test
- pass required state-mandated tests
- complete all academic requirements for the degree
- complete all requirememts of the Teacher Education Program of the University
- make application for teacher certification with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
All certification requirements are subject to the State Board for Educator Certification standards, rules, and regulations. The State Board for Educator Certification has the authority to suspend, revoke, or refuse to issue a teaching certificate to a person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor for a crime which directly relates to the duties and responsibilities of the teaching profession. The Department of Public Safety and SBEC will conduct a criminal record search of all certificate applicants.
