Spring 2013 Awards

The Student Research Forum for the School of Natural and Social Sciences was held Wednesday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m. in the Woods and Cornish Great Room in Ornelas Student Center. At the forum, students gave oral presentations of their research project, there were poster presentations, and each department in the School distributed Awards. Below are the awards given to the Biology and Chemistry department students:



Biology Department Awards: Outstanding Freshman Biology Major - Skylyn Potts, Biology 3452 Microbiology Poster Winners - Valerie Smith and Alyssa Romero, Biology 4302 Immunology Poster Winners - Esther Jeong and Landin Hardy, Outstanding Biology Research Project - Lya Swaner, and Overall Outstanding Student in the Department of Biology and Chemistry - Steven Virgil

 Honors Projects: 

An Honors Project is designed to allow students the opportunity to conduct advanced research in their chosen discipline. The Honors Project culminates in graduating "with distinction" and special recognition during graduation ceremonies. The project is a four-semester program of individual research directed by a faculty member in the student's academic major and supported by an Honors Project Committee. Lya Swaner presenting her research titled: "A review of the Literature Concerning the Need for Metabolic Water of the Genus Peromyscus". Lya was a Biology Major in the Human Biology Track and graduated in Spring 2013.




Melodie Blackmon presenting her research titled: "Role of Pigment Epithelial Derived Factor in Metastic Prostate Cancer". Melodie was a Biology Major in the Human Biology Track and graduated in Spring 2013.
