Nursing is a profession that is rich in tradition, infused with compassion, and grounded on the pursuit of evidence and innovation. One of the most famous nurses in history, Florence Nightingale, began at a young age ministering to the ill and poor people in a village near her home. Nightingale eventually came to the conclusion that nursing was her God-given calling. She believed nursing as a vocation was her divine purpose.
Nightingale continuously sought to improve patient outcomes by seeking answers and creating solutions to health care needs. As a Christ-centered nurse training program, our practice at East Texas Baptist University encompasses a health care philosophy and calling like Florence Nightingale. Our teaching not only challenges new nurses to grow in knowledge, experience, and competencies in order to provide evidence-based quality care to their patients, but also equips ETBU nurses to integrate their Christian faith in their nursing practice.
Providing our students with the latest innovative technologies, modern simulation equipment, and enhanced clinical facilities will better prepare ETBU nurses with the skills, experience, and confidence to effectively address patient health care needs. The relocation to our new downtown campus in the historic Marshall Grand will enable our program to grow and help meet the profession’s acute nursing shortage.
Tradition, evidence, innovation, and compassion are interwoven within our ETBU scholarly community. The School of Nursing reflects this commitment in our connection to the University’s mission of developing Christian servant leaders to serve in the nursing profession. We consistently pursue the highest quality learning outcomes for our students to educate future nurses who will leave East Texas Baptist and move into our communities, our nation, and our world to minister to the needs of the patients they serve in the name of Jesus.
We need the support of ETBU Alumni and friends to partner with us as we move to the Marshall Grand.
