softball top 8

Writing about spring sports at ETBU is strange this week since the weather on campus has been cold with morning lows below freezing the past few days.  All week both the ETBU softball and baseball teams have been braving the cold as they hold practices for the upcoming season. Matter of fact, light snow flakes fell on one afternoon on Woods and Taylor Fields.

Lady Tiger softball once again is on the national map as one of the best softball programs in the nation.  The National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll has been released. The Lady Tigers, coached by Janae Shirley, are ranked eighth, one spot higher than where they finished in 2013.

In the American Southwest Conference Preseason softball poll, the defending ASC Champs Lady Tigers, are picked to finish second in 2014 behind Texas-Tyler.

After the ASC poll was released, KTAL-TV sports director Brandon Dunn (@BrandonDunnNBC6) tweeted, “The defending ASC softball champion from @ETBU_Softball have been picked to finish second in conference. Don’t bet against them!!!”

Totally agree with the tweet.

ETBU softball opens the 2014 season on Friday, Feb. 14 in Abilene, Texas, against Hardin-Simmons University.

ETBU baseball starts the season against Centenary College on Friday, Feb. 7, at Woods Field with first pitch scheduled at 2:00 p.m.
