New Ornelas Student Center is Open!

There has been something missing at ETBU for students – having a place just for them, where they can hang out, relax, study, and simply “chill.”
Well, not anymore. That problem has been solved. Solved in a BIG way.
When students return to the East Texas Baptist University campus following the Christmas break a new student center awaits for their enjoyment. The Ornelas Student Center will open for regular hours on Monday, January 10, as students begin the spring semester.
“The building is substantially complete and we have a certificate of occupancy from the City of Marshall which allows us to begin operating the building,” said ETBU President Dr. Dub Oliver. “This is a great addition to our campus and I cannot wait for the students and the Marshall community to see it.”
Student Affairs, Campus Services, the Post Office, and Student Government began moving items in on Tuesday. Sodexo Food Services is conducting training this week for their retail dining operations located on the first floor. Jazzman’s, a gourmet coffee shop and bakery, along with the sandwich shop, Sub Connection, will begin serving on Monday when students return.
“There are still a number of workers in the building addressing the remaining punch list items,” said Dr. Oliver. “As the week progresses there should be fewer and fewer workers in the building.”
A dedication service is planned for Friday, January 21, at 1:00 p.m. Tours will be conducted after the dedication service. The new 31,852 square foot two-story building was built on the former site of Merle Bruce Hall.
