History Made With Win
After a 50 year absence, ETBU brought football back to the Hill in 2000. There has been many firsts in ETBU football history since then. The first win came on September 9, 2000 as ETBU beat Southwestern Assemblies of God, 49-7. The first loss occurred the next week against Mississippi College.
The first American Conference Championship occurred in 2003 as they Tigers went two- deep in the NCAA Division III playoffs, another first for the program.
Never in the history of modern day Tiger football has a team started 2-0.
The Tigers beat Austin College to open the 2013 season and this past Saturday evening in Georgetown ETBU won 56-10 over Southwestern University.
Adam Ledyard, ETBU Sports Information Director, wrote this after the win, “History was made for East Texas Baptist University opening up with a 2-0 record for the first time in program history and breaking the record for total offense. The artificial turf was on fire at Birkelbach Field as ETBU finished with 683 yards of total offense.” (Read the complete game story by clicking here)
ETBU first year head coach Joshua Eargle said after the game, “We put the vision in front of our players about being 2-0 and they chased after it and we were able to make it happen thanks to those kids playing so hard.”
Congratulations to Tiger football for history being made with the victory over Southwestern.
