ETBU Alum AdDRESSes Hunger in a Unique Way
I recently read that a gift as low as $35 can feed a child in Ethiopia for an entire month.
It really makes you want to do something to help.
That’s just how Katy Roberts (’06) felt just before she began Dress to Bless Ministries, an NPO that sells creative and unique dresses for little girls. Katy makes these colorful dresses from her home, which is a feat in itself as she is a married mother of 3.
From the Dress to Bless Ministries site (here): “We are a non-profit ministry committed to helping the hungry by providing physical and spiritual nourishment through a partnership with Samaritan’s Purse where 100% of our profits go to starving children. Every dress sold provides a child with ONE month of nourishing food!”
Since the launch, dress sales have steadily increased, which translates into more hungry children being fed. Katy says in her blog, “I wanted to give a quick word of thanks to all who are supporting this ministry! So many of you have shared the word, bought a dress, given fabric, made a dress, and most importantly covered this ministry in prayer. To all of you thank you so much! I pray that you will be blessed for your efforts!”
At Tiger Pride we are dedicated to telling you about amazing things our Tiger Family is doing, but in this case we’d also like to tell you how you can get involved.
First, cover them in prayer. Prayer changes things, it moves mountains.
Second, buy a dress! You can go to the DtB site (here) and view the current selection. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, be sure to email Katy directly at email@example.com. Dresses are only $35 and 100% of the money goes to feeding starving children. (Even if you don’t have a little girl in your family, you can purchase a dress which will be given to a local child in need. The $35 will go to feed a child. You’ll feel great. It’s a win win win!!)
Third, make a dress. What is great about this ministry is that Katy is using her talents to make a difference, and in my opinion, that’s why God gives them to us. Be sure to contact Katy via email if you’d like to help create dresses to assist this ministry.
Fourth, donate fabric (even money for fabric!). Since 100% of the $35 per dress goes to feeding children, fabric and material cost must be covered in some fashion. Your gift of fabric and/or money for fabric helps feed more children and gives you the opportunity to make a difference. Gift certificates to fabric stores are welcomed as well.
Finally, you can donate a monetary gift. You can be assured that any money donated to Dress to Bless will be used to create more merchandise so they can help more children.
One dress feeds one child for one month. Amazing, once you think about that.
We are so very excited to hear about the work in which Katy and Dress to Bless are involved. Mother Teresa once said, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” We are so proud that Katy’s “small thing,” – a little dress – is making an great impact in the lives of hungry children.
Way to go Katy! GO BLUE!!
