Admission Requirments

The ETBU Professional Nursing program is an upper-division program that enrolls students each fall semester. Enrollment begins January 1st and ends March 1st each year. Applications must be received in the Department of Nursing prior to January 11th to be considered for acceptance into the program beginning in the following fall semester. Student cohorts are formed based on current university guidelines for class size, available resources, and at the discretion of the university. Applicants are considered for acceptance into the program once all admission requirements have been completed. Conditional acceptance may be granted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Dean.

Letters notifying successful applicants of their acceptance into the fall nursing class will be emailed no later than May 1st, with a hard copy following in the mail. It is important to note that within 2 weeks of being notified of acceptance, applicants must indicate, in writing, their acceptance into the next nursing class in order to secure their place. Letters also will be emailed to applicants who are not offered a seat in the upcoming program within this same time frame.

Admission requirements include the following:

•  Acceptance or already enrolled as a student at ETBU
• Completed the Affidavit of Immunity and the application packet, including all forms and other documentation required:

1. Application form
2. 2 x 2 inch photo (headshot)
3. Recommendation forms (2); one personal and one from a former high school or college teacher
4. ETBU health information form (Note: Submitting a copy of the ETBU health information form on file in Student Services is sufficient to meet this requirement)
5. Immunizations and CPR record
6. Criminal background check consent and compliance agreement
7. Declaratory order disclosure statement

• Satisfactory score(s) on standardized preadmission assessment exam (TEAS)
• Overall GPA of 2.8 or higher in all pre-requisite nursing courses as detailed in the nursing degree plan, with grades of C or better in each of the following courses: a) all natural and behavioral sciences, b) statistics, c) freshman English (university requirement), and d) Introduction to Professional Nursing.
• Completed criminal background check and cleared by the Texas Board of Nursing as eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam
