José Alonzo, Assistant Professor of Spanish
B. B. A., B. S., M. S.-- Stephen F. Austin State University; M. A.-- Texas A & M at Commerce
I grew up in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and moved to Texas in 1973 to attend SFA, where I earned three degrees, played soccer, and met my wife, Tami. I worked in the agricultural field before earning a teaching certificate at U. T. Tyler.
I came to ETBU in 1994 after teaching Spanish and ESL, and coaching soccer at the high school level. I soon earned my Master's degree in Spanish and have been teaching Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Spanish and coaching Men’s Soccer for the past 16 years. I love both teaching and coaching and having the freedom to share my faith in Christ with my students and players. I see my job as a ministry and I pray for those in my classroom and on my soccer team faithfully.
My wife and I have three wonderful teenagers whom we have home schooled for the past 13 years. Our oldest son is now a freshman at ETBU while our daughter is taking dual credit classes on campus as well. Our whole family attends Immanuel Baptist Church. I enjoy sports of all kinds, politics, working in the yard, traveling, and spending time with my family.
