The Department of Communication Studies seeks to provide students pursuing a degree in mass communication or speech communication with the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge of effective personal and public communication principles. The department offers courses in the general education curriculum and majors and minors in three sequences: Speech Communication, Speech Education, and Mass Communication.

Debate
The ETBU Debate Team was revived in the Fall of 2008 after many years of inactivity. The team travels to several tournaments including the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament during the season. The team is open to any student regardless of major. Student Newspaper

The ETBU Compass is a bi-weekly student newspaper with a paid staff that publishes news about what's going on at ETBU. Paid, newspaper staff members gain hands-on experience with publishing a real newspaper with real deadlines and real readers. Click on the link above to go see an online edition of The Compass! Radio
In January of 2009, ETBU launched its Internet streaming radio station, Level 1209. The station operates 24-hours per day, 7 days a week during the regular fall and spring semesters. Lambda Pi Eta - National Honor Society
ETBU sponsors a chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, a honor society administered by the National Communication Association. The honor society is open to Communication Studies majors and minors who are juniors or seniors and have at least a 3.25 GPA in communication classes. New mambers are inducted each year. The chapter participates in numerous service activitoes throughout the year.
