Theatre Design & Technical Concentration

BACHELOR OF ARTS – THEATRE - DESIGN & TECHNICAL CONCENTRATION
The Department of Theatre Arts offers pre-professional majors designed to provide a broad foundation for careers in theatre. The concentration in Design and Technical Theatre has been developed in order to prepare theatre majors with a more adequate knowledge of the theories and practices of design and technical theatre. It also is designed to provide students with focused training required for pursuing a career or graduate work in the area of design and technical theatre. One of the two concentrations offered or a minor from another department must be selected.

The concentration in Design and Technical Theatre addresses the needs of the students by providing a strong foundation in the aspects of theatre that are integral to staging theatrical productions. The program enhances the use of existing and developing technologies which are integral to the instructional processes of this program and to professional theatre design and technology. Our production facilities include a 168-seat proscenium theatre, a flexible black box theatre, a 16-seat computer lab with dedicated theatre software, and a large scene shop.  With the recent expansion of faculty expertise in design and technical production, as well as resources for computer-aided design and drafting, the department is now solidly equipped to initiate this new program.
