SGA Senator Elections

SGA 2011-2012 SGA Senator applications are due Thursday, Sept. 1 by 4:00p.m. to the Office of Student Affairs.
Campaigning begins Friday, Sept. 2.
Elections will be Friday, Sept. 2 - Sunday, Sept. 4 online.

Campaigning and Election Guidelines:
You may not begin campaigning until you receive an email confirmation from Magen Bunyard, Dean of Students.
The confirmation email will contain the guidelines for campaigning.
Candidates violating the guidelines will forfeit the opportunity to participate in the elections.
Senators
The legislative and judicial powers of the Student Government Association shall be vested in the Student Legislature which shall consist of the Student Senate.
The Student Senate shall consist of three (3) senators elected from each class and three (3) senators-at-large. 
Senator Requirements
Senators must attend weekly SGA meetings on Tuesdays from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m.
Senators must attend SGA Training on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 2:00p.m.-8:00p.m.
Senators must attend the SGA Retreat on Friday, Oct. 21 starting at 6:00p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 22 at 12:00p.m.
(Only senators participating in University required events will be excused from the training and retreat. Senator candidates must notify Magen Bunyard - mbunyard@etbu.edu - by email of the excused absence by Thursday, Sept. 1.
Senator Qualifications
Senators must observe the following requirements:
1.       Be a member of the class of the Senate Seat for which they are running, according to number of credit hours at the time of election.
2.       Maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher.
3.       Be in good standing with the University, i.e. not be on academic or disciplinary probation.
4.       Be a full-time student at East Texas Baptist University.
Senators-at-Large must observe the following requirements:
1.       Maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher.
2.       Be in good standing with the University, i.e. not be on academic or disciplinary probation.
3.       Be a student at East Texas Baptist University.
Section 3 – Senator Election Procedures and Length of Terms
Senators shall be elected by their respective classes in a general election at the beginning of each academic year (fall). A Senator’s term shall last until the time of induction the following academic year.
Senator Duties
A.      All Senators are required to:
1.       Attend all meetings of the Student Senate. Only absences approved by the Senate shall be excused. The second unexcused absence will result in censure, and the third unexcused absence will be cause for impeachment.
2.       Serve on at least two committees.
3.       Work one office hour per week. Two missed office hours shall be considered an unexcused absence.
 
B.      The Student Senate shall have full authority and power to:
1.       Make Student Government Association budget appropriations.
2.       Present official proposals to be submitted to the University Cabinet.
3.       Vote to submit official proposals to the University Cabinet.
4.       Present suggested by-laws for the Student Government Association.
5.       Enact and repeal By-Laws for the Student Government Association
6.       Grant organization charters (as outlined in the ETBU Policies and Procedures Handbook).
7.       Do anything necessary and proper to carry out the aforementioned powers as long as its actions do not contradict the Student Government Association Constitution or By-Laws.
