Chapel FAQ

What time does Chapel begin?

Chapel will begin at 10:00 AM. No one will be admitted after the doors are closed at eight minutes after the hour.

 

How many absences can I have?

You are allowed 7 absences. In accordance with ETBU policy, this is 25% of the total Chapels (28) held during each semester.

 

Are there excused absences?

ETBU policy is that regardless of the reason for the absences, a student must attend 75% of class sessions to pass.

 

Is there a make-up policy for Chapel?

You may make-up excessive absences by viewing Chapel by video tape and writing a report. Arrangements for make-up must be made through the Office of Spiritual Development, located in Ornelas Spiritual Life Center.

 

Do I need my ETBU ID card for Chapel?

Students are required to maintain a valid, scannable ID card for Chapel so that attendance may be accurately recorded. Errors in recording attendance can occur if your card becomes damaged or lost during the semester.

 

How do I know if my card scans correctly?

The scanner will display a green light if the card is accepted. If I red light is displayed, you will need to report the problem. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that his or her card has scanned correctly.

 

Where do I check absences?

Chapel attendance lists are posted on a regular basis near the entrance to Baker Auditorium. You may also inquire in the Office of Spiritual Development.

 

Is it okay to talk during Chapel?

Sustained conversation and/or loud talking are not permitted during Chapel and may result in your being asked to leave and/or receiving an absence for that day.

 

Why can't we eat or drink at Chapel?

Ornelas Spiritual Life Center prohibits any food or drink inside Baker Auditorium.

 

Is it okay to use a laptop, flashlight, cell phone, video game or listen to headsets during Chapel?

No. Attendance at Chapel requires paying attention to the program.

 

Can I swipe my card even if I did not attend Chapel?

No. Students who do so are cheating and will lose credit for that semester of Chapel.

 

Who do I contact if my absences are incorrect?

The Office of Spiritual Development will be happy to help with questions you have regarding absences.

 

What do I do if I leave something in Chapel?

Go to the Office of Spiritual Development and check the lost and found shelf.
