“Christmas in Marshall” Concerts Continue at ETBU
MARSHALL, Texas (11/20/08)- East Texas Baptist University School of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Marshall Regional Arts Council will once again feature holiday music concerts that have become an ongoing tradition of the “Wonderland of Lights” celebration. The ETBU Concert Choir and University Singers will present “Voices of Christmas” on Friday, Dec. 5. Then on Saturday, Dec. 6, the ETBU Symphonic Band will present “Sounds of the Season.” The concerts will be held on campus in the Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night.
ETBU Thanksgiving Holiday Break, November 24-28
MARSHALL, Texas (11/18/08)- East Texas Baptist University will close for the Thanksgiving Holiday break, Monday, November 24, through Friday, November 28, 2008. Classes will resume and the administration offices will re-open on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 8:00 a.m.
ETBU To Host Shadow Day, December 2-3, 2008
MARSHALL, Texas (10/31/08)-High School seniors and college transfer students are invited to attend Shadow Day at East Texas Baptist University Tuesday, December 2, through Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Shadow Day is an event sponsored by the ETBU Office of Admissions that gives visiting students an opportunity to experience campus life at the four year Christian liberal arts university.
Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Recognizes ETBU Students
MARSHALL, Texas (11/17/08)- The East Texas Baptist University Office of Academic Affairs announces that 24 students will be included in the 2009 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The students were chosen because of their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success. The students from ETBU join others from more than 2,000 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign nations.
ETBU Hosts Vicki Jacks Conway and Mary Rich In Guest Duo-Piano Recital
MARSHALL, Texas (11/12/08)- The School of Fine Arts at East Texas Baptist University will host Vicki Jacks Conway and Mary Rich as they present a duo-piano recital on Thursday, November 20, 2008, in Mabee Recital Hall of the Jenna Guest Music Building at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
ETBU Kinesiology Class Holds Field Day for Washington Early Childhood Center Students

WECC students, whose ages ranged from three to five years of age, took part in a series of activity stations located in Keys Gym as well as the ETBU Intramural Fields.
ETBU Team Places 4th at TICF Ethics Match 2008
MARSHALL, Texas (11/11/08)- A team of students from The Fred M. Hale School of Business at East Texas Baptist University placed fourth in the statewide Ethics Match 2008 held Saturday, November 2, 2008 in Fort Worth Texas. The competition is sponsored by the Texas Independent College Foundation and provides students the opportunity to participate in discussions of applied ethics.
ETBU Debaters Find Success at Lumberjack Showdown
MARSHALL, Texas (11/10/08)- Six East Texas Baptist University students competed in the Lumberjack Showdown Debate Tournament hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University on November 8-9. Twelve schools from six different states participated in the tournament. Some of the other schools competing included the College of Southern Idaho, Louisiana College, LSU Shreveport, Sam Houston State University, Mississippi College, and Union University.
Area High School Counselors Visit ETBU

The workshop was held to provide information that will help counselors advise their students on the process of choosing a college and allow the counselors to become better acquainted with the four year Christian Liberal Arts University.
ETBU Jazz Band Concert, November 14
MARSHALL, Texas (10/31/08)- The East Texas Baptist University Jazz Band will be in concert on Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center on the ETBU campus.
ETBU Merle Bruce Hall “Candy Fest” To Be Held Friday, October 31, 2008
MARSHALL, Texas (10/27/2008)- A safe and fun alternative to Halloween is being planned by residents of Merle Bruce Hall at East Texas Baptist University for children 12 and under. The students will host the annual “Candy Fest” event, Friday, October 31, 2008, from 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The location for “Candy Fest” has changed from Merle Bruce Hall to the ETBU Intramural Field located at Van Zandt and Tiger Drive.
Bone Marrow Recipient Meets Donor
LONGVIEW, Texas (10/24/08)- A North Carolina man met the Marshall man Thursday who he had given a Texas-sized gift. Marc Heath had never been to Texas before, nor had he ever met Bob Hogbert, the Marshall man whose life he saved by donating the bone marrow.

ETBU Fall Choral Concert featuring the Marshall Community Chorus, October 30, 7:30 p.m.

The newly formed Marshall Community Chorus will also perform with the ETBU singers.
ETBU 2008 Homecoming King and Queen Crowned

The King is senior Travis Jones of Tyler, Texas and Queen is Senior Stacie Hooks of High Island, Texas. Students nominated 26 candidates overall for the court with winners chosen by student voting.
ETBU Names New President
This article includes a photograph MARSHALL, Texas (10/15/08)- The East Texas Baptist University Board of Trustees elected Dr. Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver of Waco, Texas, as its next president. The announcement came from ETBU Board of Trustees chair Hal Cornish after a special called trustee meeting Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Oliver will succeed current president Dr. Bob E. Riley who is retiring effective July 16, 2009 after 17 years at the helm.

ETBU Hilltop Players Presents “All My Sons”
This article includes a photograph MARSHALL, Texas (10/01/08)- The cast and crew of “All My Sons” are putting the final touches on their production for its opening in mid-October. “All My Sons” will run October 9-11, 16, and 18 at 7:30 p.m., October 17 at 8:30 p.m., and a final matinee on October 19 at 2:30 p.m. All performances will take place in the Black Box Theatre in the Jenna Guest Music Building across from the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center on the campus of East Texas Baptist University.
