"Hansel and Gretel” February 5 & 6 at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas (1/29/10)- The School of Fine Arts at East Texas Baptist University will present an English version of Engelbert Humperdink’s "Hansel and Gretel.” The opera, based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, was first staged in Weimar, Germany in 1893.

"Hansel and Gretel,” under the direction of Dr. Eric Thomas, Assistant Professor of Music, will be performed on Friday, February 5, 2010, and Saturday, February 6, 2010, in Mabee Recital Hall of the Jenna Guest Music Building. These free performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. and seating is first-come, first served.

The cast for the Friday performance is as follows: Hansel, Hannah Rigg; Gretel, Krystle Natividad; Mother, Leslie Jones; Father, Brandon Johnson; Witch, Raven Minter; Sandman, Jillian Brackett; and Dew Fairy, Patience Chacha. The cast for Saturday will remain the same except the role of the Father will be played by Brent Hetherington and the Sandman by Lydia Garrett.

The music director is Professor Mark Crim. The technical director is Kathleen Thomas. Student designers are Spencer Nelson, Amy Sherman, and Jeremy Weaver.
