ETBU Students Attend TEG Day At State Capitol
MARSHALL, Texas (2/15/13)- Eight students from East Texas Baptist University visited the State Capitol in Austin on Wednesday, February 13, and met with five Representatives and two Senators from nearby counties. The visit allowed students to personally thank members of the Legislature for supporting the Texas Tuition Equalization Grant (TEB) financial aid program. TEG provides grant aid to students with financial need who attend private, non-profit Texas colleges and universities.
The students who attended from ETBU to say thank you to Rep. Chris Paddie, Rep. George Lavender, Rep. Trent Ashby, Rep. Allan Ritter, Rep. James White, Sen. Kevin Eltiffe and Sen. Robert Nichols were Layne Bruno of Orange, Madysen Neathery of Wake Village, Anna Rothwell of New Boston, Jeff Hull of New Boston, Lisa Montiel of Marshall, Brashay Gross of Marshall, Teryance Horace of Groveton, and Lou Ozan of Kirbyville.
Rep. Paddie introduced ETBU on the House of Representatives floor, and recognized each student by name. "Hearing their names called out in the House gallery was a neat experience for the group” said Tommy Young, ETBU Director of Financial Aid. "This is the third time I’ve taken students to the Capitol for TEG, but the first time that students have been personally introduced. We appreciate Rep. Paddie’s kindness and for making their trip a memorable one.”
ETBU receives about 1.3 million dollars per year in TEG funds and assists over 450 students per year.
