ETBU Student Affairs Names Dean of Students
MARSHALL, Texas (1/31/13) - The East Texas Baptist University Office of Student Affairs announces that Tyler B. Sellers has been selected to serve as Dean of Students. Sellers will assume his duties at ETBU on March 7, 2013. He comes to ETBU from Howard Payne University where he has served as Associate Dean and Director of Student Activities.
"Tyler brings a Christ-centered heart for servant leadership and a passion for helping students engage more fully intellectually, socially, spiritually, and emotionally in the life of the University. Our community will be blessed by his zeal to help students gain the maximum benefit from being in college,” remarked Xavier Whitaker, ETBU Vice President for Student Affairs.
As the Dean of Students, Sellers will serve as a member of the Student Affairs staff. He will be responsible for developing a positive campus climate. Also, he will oversee educational initiatives and outreach to support responsible student citizenship. Sellers will work in partnership with the Director of Residence Life and the Resident Directors on all issues pertaining to promoting student conduct in the residence halls.
Sellers shared his excitement about joining the ETBU family with the Students Affairs staff. He stated, "I am thrilled to accept the invitation to join the ETBU community as your new Dean of Students. My family and I look forward to being a part of the campus family and seeing what God has in store for us in Marshall!"
Prior to Sellers position as Associate Dean and Director of Student Activities at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, he served as Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Activities at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Seller earned his Master’s of Education in Student Services Administration and Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Mathematics degrees from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Sellers is active in professional associations such as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
ETBU is a Christian four-year liberal arts institution located in Marshall. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits ETBU to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
