by Mike Midkiff

MARSHALL, Texas (11/29/12)- The East Texas Baptist University Symphonic Band will present its Christmas Festival Concert this Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, on the square in downtown Marshall at 7:00 p.m. each evening. The lighted historic Harrison County Courthouse, the crown jewel of the Wonderland of Lights, will provide the backdrop for Christmas music.

"We are looking forward to performing downtown for our community,” said ETBU Assistant Professor of Music Mark Crim. "There is truly something for everyone. Great band music, our handbell choir and even some vocal soloists!”

The band will perform holiday classics including Leroy Anderson’s "Christmas Festival” and "Sleigh Ride”, music from the motion picture "Polar Express”, and arrangement of "Away in a Manger” featured on the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD. Longview senior Kerah Smith will sing Amy Grant’s "Grown Up Christmas List” with the band and juniors Daniel Hatten from Gladewater and Jonathan Parker from Queen City will be featured vocalists on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The University Ringers handbell ensemble will perform a mashup of Aaron Copland’s "Hoedown” with eight familiar Christmas carols.

The performance will begin promptly at 7:08 p.m. following the courthouse light and music show and will conclude at 8:00 pm.

The ETBU Symphonic Band is comprised of music majors studying to be professional musicians and teachers as well as students from nearly every academic discipline. For information contact the ETBU School of Fine Arts at 903-923-2158.
