ETBU Tiger Tracks Funding The Future 5K Run/Walk A Success

MARSHALL, Texas (10/04/12)- East Texas Baptist University hosted over 160 runners on Saturday, September 29 during the first annual "Tiger Tracks Funding The Future 5K Run/Walk.” Over 100 volunteers helped the runners as they ran the course that went through the ETBU campus finishing in the plaza area south of historic Marshall Hall.

"The turnout was great,” said ETBU Coordinator of Community Relations Keri Bradley and race organizer. "Everyone had fun and the proceeds from the race entries and sponsorships will fund student scholarships at ETBU.”

The overall winner of the 5K was Melvin Jones with a time of 17:11. The overall female winner was Natalie Prather who ran the course in 19:57.

The best times among the female runners by age division were: Elise Bach, 0-14 years, 23:08; Leslie Martinez, 15-19 years, 23:01; Emily Bach, 20-24 years, 22:14; Natalie Prather, 25-29 years, 19:57; Kerry Pringle, 30-34, 25:12; Jennifer Hamilton, 35-39 years, 31:31; Jeanna White, 40-44 years, 26:13; Janie Hill, 45-49, 42:02; Mary Roberts, 50-54 years, 35:49; and Gaye Christy, 55+ years, 39:23.

Among the male runners the best times by age division were: Jairus Allen, 0-14 years, 19:11; Melvin Jones, 15-19 years, 17:11; Matt Upshaw, 20-24 years, 18:12; Cody Finch, 25-29 years, 23:33, Lance Carlile, 30-34 years, 23:19; Ryan Berryhill, 35-39 years, 21:38; Mike McMurry, 45-49 years, 25:44; Rick Gaston, 50-54 years, 25:04; John Ritter, 55+ years, 22:04.

Local churches Immanuel Baptist, Hillcrest Baptist, Mulberry Springs Baptist and Friendship Baptist, along with the ETBU Alumni Association provided snacks and drinks for the participants.
