The Great Commission Center of East Texas Baptist University is dedicated to creating and equipping servant leaders that can serve locally in Marshall as well as anywhere around the world where God may call them. ETBU students contribute hundreds of volunteer hours each year for local ministry and service initiatives through ongoing involvement and special events. Through intentional discipleship that includes service to the community, students have the opportunity to grow in their relationship with Christ so that they will be prepared for a lifestyle of Christ-centered service and leadership when they leave campus. The Great Commission Center provides ministry and cross-cultural training for students as they serve in Marshall, throughout the US, and overseas.
Part of Dr. Maxwell’s responsibilities include assisting students fulfill requirements for service-learning courses. Service-learning courses intentionally integrate academic learning with community service in credit-bearing academic courses. These experiences give students the opportunity to engage in service within the local community and receive experiential and contextualized learning experiences.
Dr. Maxwell comes to ETBU after serving for the past seven years with the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU). She is a graduate of Union University (B.A.), Beeson Divinity School (M.Div.), and earned her Ph.D. from the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague, Czech Republic.

She has a heart for missions and will inspire and challenge our students to serve Christ with their hands and feet. Our hope is that the churches of East Texas will also benefit from Dr. Maxwell’s appointment at ETBU, as she is a wonderful resource for area churches as they seek to serve their communities.”
Dr. Maxwell is excited about the opportunity stating, "I am honored to be a part of what God is doing through ETBU. As Director of the Great Commission Center, I look forward to helping connect our campus and community with opportunities to be on mission. It’s exciting to consider the ways that God can use us to further his kingdom purposes here in Marshall and around the world!”
