‘The Beacon’ now collecting material for April issue

The ETBU Men’s Tennis
Team made history on Saturday, February 23rd, by winning their first-ever program
match with a 9-0 win over
Sul Ross State. This was not
the only match for the Tigers
over the weekend; the team
also traveled on a tour to Schreiner and also Texas Lutheran. ETBU fell to Schreiner
earlier that day by a score of
5-4.
In the Schreiner matchup, ETBU took a 2-1 lead in doubles over Schreiner ,
winning the #1 and #2 doubles matches. Tyler Tolopka
and Jeremy Rhodes won the
#1 doubles easily by a score
of 8-4. Terry Affolter and
Weston Godsey won 8-6 in
the #2 doubles match.
When singles came
around, Tolopka was able to
put away the opposition 6-4,
6-0 in #1 singles and Affolter
won #3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. At
#5, Luke Phillips fought hard,
but ultimately fell 6-4, 7-6
and dropped the tiebreaker
10-8, changing the momentum in the favor of Schreiner In the historical win over
Sul Ross State, Tolopka, Affolter, Godsey, Phillips, Asante Williams, and Nicholas Larzabal all won their
singles matches. Williams
and Larazbal picked up wins
by default from Sul Ross’s
inability to suit a full roster. Tolopka won #1 singles,
6-3, 6-3, and was followed
by Affolter’s win, 6-3, 6-1.
Godsey won #3 singles, 6-0,
6-1 and then Phillips took #4
singles, 6-0, 6-3.
