Excavation of Ornelas Student Center begins

The demolition of Merle Bruce Hall is complete and excavation of the Ornelas Student Center (OSC) site will begin soon. ETBU President Dub Oliver projected the building’s completion by the end of the year.

According to Oliver, once the excavation is finished, the foundation for the new student center will be laid. Then the steel framework will be erected this semester and is hopefully concluding in May. Full story

ETBU got off to a fast start Tuesday night and then held on despite a furious LeTourneau rally to take a much-needed 71-67 win over the Yellow Jackets in Ornelas Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers played a great game of basketball on against rival LeTourneau Lady Jackets Tuesday, Jan. 26. This win gave them a two-game win streak and put them a half game behind Texas-Tyler for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Mississippi College’s quickness, size and athleticism proved to be just a little much for ETBU on Saturday, as the talented Choctaws held off the Tigers for a 72-63 win in Ornelas Gymnasium.

Retired East Texas Baptist University Professor of Religion  Donald R. Potts, 79, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, in Marshall. Potts taught at ETBU from 1976 until his retirement as the Chair of the Department of Religion in 2001.
