User Categories

Primary Users:  Jarrett Library exists for our primary users - our students, faculty and staff.  In addition, we also give library service to students and faculty affiliated with Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary classes that take place on the ETBU campus.  Primary users have access to all circulating materials as well as off-campus access to the electronic resources found in Jarrett Library.

Secondary Users:  Jarrett Library offers limited library privileges to ETBU trustees, donors, and alumni as well as immediate family members of ETBU faculty & staff; members of the Mary K. Armstrong Society Scholar's Circle and above;  teachers employed by either private or public schools within Harrison County; and church staff members employed by a church within Harrison County.  In addition, Jarrett Library participates in the TexShare Card Program which allows users in good standing from other librares across Texas to check out a limited number of books from Jarrett Library.  See the TexShare Card Program page for more information.  All secondary users are expected to follow the rules and regulations of the Jarrett Library Visitor Guidelines.

In-House Users:  All users who do not fall within one of the above categories are welcome to use Jarrett Library resources in person.  In-House Users are not eligible to check out any materials from the Library.

Overdue, Damaged & Lost Materials

Overdue materials are fined at the following rates:

Books = 10¢ per day
Videos/DVDs = 25¢ per day

Overdue materials that have not been returned may also accumulate a lost book fee as well as the fine.  Once the book is returned the lost book fee will be removed and only the fine will remain.  Unpaid fines will result in a blocked account and no other items may be checked out until the fine is paid.  Unpaid fines may also be reported to the University Business Office until payment is made.

Materials that are lost or damaged will be replaced at the following rate:

Book replacement:  $50.00 minimum + $15.00 processing fee
Video/DVD replacement:  $100.00 minimum + $15.00 processing fee

If a lost book or video is eventually found the money paid will be refunded except for the $15.00 processing fee.

Any student who is unable to pay their fines or fees may be able to work off the amount by working in the library.  Contact the Library Director, Ms. Cynthia Peterson, at 2257 to work out an arrangement.

Library Cards

Anyone checking out materials must present their current "library card" at the Circulation Desk.

A current ETBU identification card is the "library card" for the majority of users.  Everyone who has a card should come by the library each Fall to have your card information updated and to receive your official Jarrett Library barcode.  If a replacement card is necessary the user should come by the library so that a new barcode can be applied and your information updated.

Members of the Mary K. Armstrong Society will use their official membership card.

Other community users will be given a card or key tag that will be used to check out materials.

Holds

ETBU students, faculty or staff who need a book or other resource that is already checked out they may put a hold on that item.  When that item is returned the person putting a hold on it will be informed that the item is back in the library and available for checkout.  Items will be held for only one week before being added back to the circulating collection or, in the case of multiple holds, it will be held for the next person in the hold queue.

If a hold is put on an item that is checked out the person who as it will not be able to renew that item.  That person may put a hold on the item so it is returned to them when it is no longer in use.

Holds are placed on items through the library's online catalog.  You will need your library barcode number and your pin number in order to access your account.  If you do not know your pin number present your ID card at the circulation desk and it will be retrieved for you.  Once you know your pin you may also change it online to something easier to use - or you may ask the library staff to change it for you.

Copy Cards

Copy cards must be purchased in order to use either of the two library copiers.  Unused copies may be used at a later time.

The card denominations and cost is as follows:

20 copies = $2.00
30 copies = $3.00
50 copies = $5.00

Printing

The library has two public printers, one black and white and one in color.  All printing is deducted from the student's 250 pages given at the beginning of each semester (color printing uses more pages per printout.  Currently 5 pages are deducted for each page of color printing).

The black and white printer defaults to duplex printing, meaning that the printouts are on both sides of the page.  Two pages are still deducted from the 250 pages.  If single-sided printing is desired (such as when a final version is printed to turn in) the print settings may be adjusted.

Additional print pages may be purchased for 5¢ per page at the Circulation desk.

All other users must pay for their print jobs at the circulation desk.  The cost is 10¢ per printed page (20¢ for double-sided printing).

Faxes

Users may send faxes from the library.  For more information see Sending Faxes.
