SOFTBALL: ETBU pounds Farmingdale State, 16-0, at Leadoff Classic

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (3/12/10) -- ETBU took advantage of some wildness by Farmingdale State pitchers and made the Rams pay on the scoreboard, as the fourth-ranked Lady Tigers stayed unbeaten with a 16-0 win in the first game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic here Friday afternoon.

ETBU (7-0) was scheduled to play No. 23 Alma (9-2) at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the second game of pool play at the 24-team tournament.

Farmingdale (0-1) issued 11 walks in the five-inning game, which saw ETBU push across 14 runs in the second inning. The Lady Tigers pounded out 14 hits in the game, 11 of which came in the decisive second inning.

Freshman Rebecca Young led the charge, going 2 for 3 with her first career home run and four RBI. Junior Meghan Fisher and freshman Lauryn McCurry added two hits apiece, as ETBU every starter had at least one hit.

Senior right-hander Ayrika Henderson (2-0) pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. Junior Kaleigh Mushinski finished up with two innings of no-hit relief.
