W BASKETBALL: Win streak hits four as Lady Tigers club Dallas, 85-67
MARSHALL, Texas (1/30/10) – ETBU took a break Saturday from American Southwest Conference action but the Lady Tigers continued their winning streak with an 85-67 win over the University of Dallas in non-conference women’s basketball action in Ornelas Gym.
ETBU’s fourth win in a row puts the Lady Tigers (9-10) just a game below the .500 mark heading into Tuesday night’s rematch in Longview against LeTourneau. The Lady Crusaders, an independent member of NCAA Division III and former member of the ASC, dropped to 7-10 on the year.
The Lady Tigers shot 42 percent from the floor in the game and racked up a 37-11 advantage in bench points. Dallas’ leading scorer, Cara Sczepanski, entered the game averaging over 19 points per game but was hampered by foul trouble Saturday that kept her on the floor for just 21 minutes. She still managed to score 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting but the Lady Tigers took advantage of the minutes she was on the bench.
ETBU led by double digits in the first half and ended the first 20 minutes with a 43-35 advantage. The Lady Crusaders battled back in the second half to actually take the lead at one point early in the half but ETBU pulled away to finish off the double digit victory.
ETBU made 40 trips to the free-throw line, converting 32, which was 12 more than Dallas. The Lady Tigers also hit 5 of 9 three-point attempts.
Karlee Wilson led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds for ETBU. Kelsey Harris and Emily Leek-Roberson scored 12 points apiece, and Satara Harrell added 10 points and seven rebounds.
ETBU returns to the ASC schedule Tuesday night with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at LeTourneau’s Solheim Arena.
