M CROSS COUNTRY: Tigers end 2009 schedule with eighth-place finish at ASC Championships

MARSHALL, Texas (11/5/09) – ETBU’s men’s cross country team brought home an eighth-place finish in the American Southwest Conference Cross Country Championships held last weekend at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.

The Tigers averaged 36:57.51 on the 8K course, which was sloppy and slow from heavy rains this fall. Still, coach Bert West was pleased with the overall results of the team considering the conditions as well as the performance during the fall.

"I was proud of the guys they way they competed and ran this year,” said West. "The weather made things tough from the beginning of the year until the end but our guys worked hard and ran as best they could considering the course conditions.”

Jacob Turnipseed finished as the top Tiger runner, in 34:11.04 to finish 44th overall. Casey Morris was next at 45th overall in 34:13.53.

Mitch Barton was the No. 3 Tiger finisher, finishing 56th overall in 35:44.60, while Jaron Joseph finished 69th overall in 38:31.03. Jeff Martin finished 75th overall in 42:07.34 to round out the ETBU scoring.

Host Mississippi College won the meet with an average time of 28:59.57, edging Texas-Tyler which finished second in 29:15.44.
