M SOCCER: Tigers eliminated from postseason consideration with 5-1 loss at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. (10/31/09) -- ETBU's push toward the postseason came to an end on the season's final day Saturday, as Mississippi College jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead on the way to a 5-1 win.

With the loss the Tigers finish the season at 6-7-2. It was the third year in a row in which ETBU had entered the final weekend of the season with a shot at advancing to the postseason only to come up short on the final day.

Mississippi College (12-4-3) clinched its own playoff bid with the win and will advance to the ASC Tournament next weekend in Belton.

The Choctaws took all the drama out of Saturday's game quickly, scoring three goals in the first 33:10 of the game. Mississippi College added two more goals in the second half before the Tigers avoided the shutout on Chris Dier's unassisted goal with just 12 seconds remaining.

Dier finished the season with a team-high eight goals. Seven of those came in the last seven games, including three game-winners in that span.
