M SOCCER: Tigers stay alive in postseason race with clutch 1-0 win

MARSHALL, Texas (10/24/09) – Senior Chris Dier scored the game-winner with just over seven minutes remaining Saturday to lift ETBU to a thrilling 1-0 win over Texas-Dallas in American Southwest Conference soccer action at Cornish Field.

The win in the Tigers’ final home game of the season keeps ETBU (5-6-2, 5-4-1) squarely in the hunt for one of six berths in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. UTD’s hopes faded with the loss, which sank the Comets to 8-4-3 and 5-4-1.

Dier, a senior from Chalmette, La., punched in the game-winner off a corner kick by fellow senior Carlos Ortega at the 82:48 mark of the game. It allowed ETBU to win a very tightly-matched game that saw the Tigers finish with just a 16-15 advantage in total shots in the game.

Senior goalie Zane Barnes made four saves on the day, while UTD goalie Jake Brandon finished with five saves.

The Tigers go on the road next week for games against Louisiana College and Mississippi College.
