M SOCCER: Tigers roll past Concordia, 5-1
AUSTIN, Texas (10/17/09) – ETBU’s offense exploded for four first-half goals Saturday and the Tigers cruised to a big 5-1 road win over Concordia-Texas in American Southwest Conference action.
ETBU (4-4-2, 4-2-1 ASC) won its first road game of the year as Carlos German (two goals), Carlos Ortega and Juan Cabrera all scored in the first 44:21 of the game. Ortega scored his first goal of the year off a pass from Richard Andrews in the 24th minute, and German scored the first of his two first-half goals off a penalty kick five minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
German scored his second goal of the game in the 35th minute, an unassisted goal to make it 3-0. Cabrera salted the game away in the final minute of the first half with an unassisted goal to make it 4-0 at halftime.
Concordia got on the board less than two minutes into the second half on Travis Westfall’s goal, but Chris Dier scored for ETBU off assists from Carlos Nieto and Ortega in the 61st minute to complete the scoring.
The Tornados lost despite racking up a 24-11 advantage in shots. ETBU senior Zane Barnes was up to the challenge, however, finishing with eight saves.
The Tigers will face a huge test Monday night when they travel to Tyler to take on Texas-Tyler at 8 p.m. in a game postponed from last week.
